Homework, the Brain & CLD
What it does to Mental Health
3-Credits | 6-Hours of Lecture + Additional Application
The researcher who recommends ten minutes nightly per grade never found evidence to support it. That researcher, Harris Cooper found the opposite, “there is no evidence that homework improves academic performance.” The tragedy is homework has caused good parents to force children to stop activities that are evidence-based, like time playing, outside, time talking, and interacting with people and a bedtime. The academic benefits come when we eat dinner with the family, maintain a bedtime routine, engage in music training, read a book by choice! No need to nag or grade traditional homework, instead know what actually works. You will change your life, your student’s and each parent’s life!
Additional Application: Examples of various strategies and activities will be provided for you to choose from.
*Please Note: University credit is an additional fee. Please be sure to contact your district for credit requirements.

“This professional development is the kind you wish your administrator and your district would attend!”
“When I come to your classes, I get more than I ever expected. Every class with you has so much meaning, so much meaning for me, for my way of life.”
“I had so much fun completing this class. It could not have come at a better time, as I just switched jobs and my new team is talking about changing homework policies. Thanks for the flexibility you always provide in this coursework. It makes all the difference!” – Erika L
“What a great presentation of the facts! I look forward to sharing the data with parents and colleagues. I am also psyched to make some changes to our homework practices and honor (and encourage activities for) what students (can) do outside of the classroom for credit and it be relevant to learning. And what a book list I now have to explore” – 4th Grade Educator
