Animal Assisted Intervention: Learning & Curriculum
$299.00

This course is designed to provide the necessary tools for educators to use curricula which will enhance cognition, promote social and emotional development, and improve overall academic achievement for students in grades P-12. Research supporting Animal-Assisted Interaction (AAI) in the classroom will be utilized. This instructional approach is underpinned by research supporting how learning about and interacting with animals provides physical, mental, and academic support for learners of all ages. Integrating positive strategies to promote mental health and wellness is embedded throughout the research. By using a universally engaging topic, such as animals as the focus for instructional design, teachers will be able to integrate themes into their required content across the curriculum with the goal of enhancing motivation, all prosocial behaviors and academic scores.
Scientific studies on the effects of human-animal interventions improve learning, thinking skills, social skills, mental health and more. When animals are the subject of the lesson and when an animal is in proximity to students and teachers measures of performance improve.

“You said this during class and it really stuck with me because I am FINALLY learning in this past year or so that: “I am worth staying charged”. I was taught as a kid to feel guilty for resting, for taking time for me. I was also taught that working super hard is where we get our value – unfortunately through our deeds, not our beautiful existence. As I drove home yesterday and was going to cancel my workout because I needed to do xyz other thing, I immediately told myself that I’m worth it. That it’s okay to take 30 minutes, feel better/stronger/happier and THEN get things accomplished.”
“Your classes are always so actionable, packed with takeaways. Thank you for helping to revitalize my energy at the end of a busy school year. Perfect timing!”
“Thanks again for helping me remember that I’m in charge of what makes me happy and how to stay healthy”
