The structure in the brain that encodes new information can retain only about 10-17 minutes at a time. Brain-based research suggests the best learning occurs when students learn new content for 10-15 minutes and break for at least two minutes -- a perfect time for a movement activity

Gray Matters® has developed a set of educational flash cards containing movement activities, perfect for use in any meeting, the classroom or any place where learning occurs.

Each card provides an activity specifically supported by brain-based research findings. These cards will help to integrate movement into any setting.

These cards are printed locally in Littleton by an envirofriendly company.

The movement activities will:

  • Improve learning, recall, attitudes, and mood
  • Engage all learners regardless of ability
  • Improve interpersonal relationships
  • Increase energy levels
  • Enhance time spent on tasks

On a physiological level, they will:

  • Increase blood flow to muscles and the brain
  • Increase the flow of oxygen
  • Decrease feelings of lethargy and boredom
  • Decrease levels of stress
  • Decrease aggression
  • Decrease bully-like behaviors

Each deck of flash cards contains 48 colorful cards, each containing a brain-based movement activity, suggestions on how to integrate into the classroom and supporting research.

In class we were told about “Adventure to Fitness” This is a website that has a man named Mr. Marc who leads the kids on adventures. They explore Yellowstone National Park, New York City etc. They are learning about these places and at the same time he has them up and running in place, climbing, sliding (bicycle pedaling on floor) and other movement activities.
